Silhouette Choices

Something I have been pondering over as I read and oodle at different blogs is why are the women who are constantly posted on Malmo Street Style creating the silhouette they are.  I feel that based on how they dress themselves and layer (I do know it is a frigid place and the weather forces for many layers) that they are creating a sihouette that makes them look very boxy or large.  A few sample photos below:

Now I want to stress that I am in now way talking about their individual style because these three women have a very unique style to one another.  I am strictly speaking of the weight/body image they are portraying.  I believe that because I am American and was brought up in a society stressing to be skinny and petite that I view these images the way I do.  Below are some images from Refinery29 from their New York street postings.

These three images show that although layered the silhouettes being portrayed are much leaner, less boxy and less frumpy in many ways.  My next thought was maybe this boxy silhouette is a new up and coming trend.  I know that Swedish brand, COS (owned by retailing giant H&M) is known for their boxier silhouette, a store where I can never figure out how I would style their clothes.  So I turned to Paris and Milan street styles:

Once again the outfits are lean, although layered and with some heavy pieces still give a distinct image as to what the women looks like and more often then not they are skinny and petite.  Are we all just vain societies that idolize skinny even if that means not eating??

Vintage Mink

This past weekend I had the best vintage buy of my life.  I found a mink caplet for $60!  I couldn't believe it,  I am so excited to wear it, with everything!

The jacket is similar to this one, lighter in color though.

My Daily Style

One of my favorite blogers, My Daily Style, recently went to a new Le Corte Ingles, Spain's largest department chain, just think Macy's but with brands like Bloomingdales.  Her outfit is so perfect.  Leather pants, over the knee boots, a simple and girly top, with a boyfriend jacket  I instantly want to recreate it!

Grey Hair is IN

Everyone who thought that Grey hair is only for old women, well you are wrong.  A big trend among many UK 20 something's is grey hair.  Apparently black and pink are overdone and this is the new way to express yourself.  Note taken...

Great Sales Associate Stalking

While at the Bloomingdales in Chicago, I saw a women that I thought looked amazing.  My friend Stacey, one of the only people I am sure read this blog, will hate me for posting this but I thought this women was genious.  I sneakily took a picture of her as she was dealing with a disgruntled customer.

It is obvious in this picture that this women is very tall, about 6 feet tall.  She still feels the confidence, which she should to wear heels and I think she looks AWESOME!

'Chick Porn'

I do know that if I don’t ask you to be mine, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life
[Runaway Bride]

I love that you get cold when it's seventy degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend a day with you I can still smell your perfume on my clothes, and I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night.
[When Harry Met Sally]

I think I’d miss you even if we’d never met.” [The Wedding Date]

You had me at hello.” [Jerry Maguire]

These are all lines from a genre of film I affectionately refer to as… Chick Porn. Why chick porn? Well when put into context of how we, as women, view “regular porn, ” as unrealistic portrayals of a man’s idealistic view of a woman, it’s exactly the same. Chick Porn is a woman’s unrealistic view of an idealized man. We watch these movies (currently Runaway Bride is playing on my TV) and develop these subconscious expectations of our boyfriends, husbands, or future spouses. When life is less glamorous than breakfast at Tiffany’s, we blame the guy, when really we bring this upon ourselves. I’m not implying we should all swear off romantic comedies and dramas (obviously, I’m watching one even now), but I do think that we should be aware of how they affect us. I know for some friends, this means that they literally cannot watch movies that make them lust after a fictional scenario and for others it means bringing the knowledge of reality to the forefront of their minds and not holding anyone accountable to ridiculous expectations.

Life is not a movie, much to my dismay. You don’t always meet your soul-mate dancing in the rain or on the observation deck of the Empire State Building, but who wants to be in love with a story? The real thing is better.

I found this very humorous post on lelove.  While reading it, I knew I had to repost it. I have so many favorite quotes from these types of movies.  My favorite chick porn is 'Love Actually'....
